Polylactic Acid

PLA is made from lactic acid. Lactic acid is made from dextrose by fermentation. Dextrose is made from starch, and starch is produced from annually-renewable plant sources, such as corn. PLA is clear and strong like petroleum-based plastic and can be composted in actively managed municipal or industrial facilities, which may not be available in your area. Not suitable for home composting.
